22,142 plays

More
Preparation of Alkanes is discussed by the use of Grignard reagent. We also see that Grignard reagent is unstable in the protic solvent. Mg/Et2O and Mg/THF are discussed in detail.

in the last slide... when grignard reagent reacts with ethanol... it is written Mg(OH)X is formed... shouldn't it be Mg(OCH3)X... if not... please tell me why ...

bro for me also same doubt
Sir, thank you so much for sparing your valuable time to teach aspirants like us. Your teaching is really amazing & the concepts are very well explained.I have a doubt:both diethyl ether & THF are aprotic solvents then why Mg/Et2O can break only weak bonds i.e non resonance stabilised bond and Mg/THF can break resonance stabilised bonds .In the last slide in protic solvents section, shouldn't RMgx and methyl alcohol yield R-H and Mg(OCH3)X. Sir, correct me if I'm wrong. Thankyou once again. Happy New year ! Have a nice day.

To be honest, I don't know the reason behind THF being able to form Grignard Reagent with the stronger bonds. And about the last slide, you're right.
Thanks a lot.
