it's like that ki living organisms reproduce karte hai par har ek living organism reproduce nhi karta. So it's not a defining property but it's a characteristic that living organism reproduce

there is a difference between defining property and characteristic ... yeah it does create confusion but then just read it out a bit and then there will be no more confusions😁

Because in unicellular organisms reproduction means increase in no. Which is done by increasing mass nd this is also the characteristic of growth thus reproduction is synonymous to growth only in unicellular

Nd in unicellular same type of organism grows similar to their parent nd thus termed as increase in no means reproduction bt in multicellular reproduction means formation of progeny which having sm features of mthr nd sm of fathr

Sir what is the difference between fragmentation and true regeneration as in both of them a orgnsm is divided/cut into few parts/fragments n each part grows as new individual
Nandini sharma

actually fragmentation occurs when body is completely matured and it breaks down into individuals whereas regeneration can occur if any organism is cut at any particular time period
I think the answer of the question "which of the following is the characteristics of living organisms?" is Consciousness
  1. Class 11th 01. The Living World (NEET/AlIMS) Anmol Sharma(MBBS student)

  2. Prerequisites 1.1 What is Living? 1.2 Diversity in the Living World 1.3 Taxonomic Categories . 1.4 Taxonomical Aids

  3. 1.1 WHAT IS LIVING? Life is a complex organisation of molecules that features through metabolism, growth, responsiveness and reproduction Characteristics of life [Cannot be taken as defining property] Reproduction - Growth [Can be taken as defining property] Metabolism - Cellular organisation Consciousness Metabolism: Cellular organisation: -Metabolism is a process by which all living organisms assimilate energy to perform various life processes such as growth, reproduction, movement, etc. -Non-living object does not exhibit metabolism. However, metabolicreactions can be demonstrated in cellfree (in vitro) system. -All living organisms have some or the other cell organelles like nucleus, protoplasm, mesosoma(prokaryotes), capsule, etc - Cellular organisation of the body is the defining features of life form. (PMT)

  4. Consciousness: -All living organisms can sense and respond to internal and external stimuli. -Human being is the only organism who ls aware of himself i.e. has self consciousness. Consciousness is defining property of living organism. -Photoperiod affects reproduction in seasonal breeders, both plant and animals. (PMT 2005) Reproduction: Mules, worker bees, infertile human couples, etc are sterile and hence cannot reproduce. Thus, reproduction cannot be taken as defining characteristic of living organisms. - Reproduction is characteristics of living organism. (PMT) -Planaria (flat worms) true regeneration. Reproduction is synonymous to growth. (PMT) Growth Non living things also grow due to accumulation of material on their surface (like mountain grows), hence growth cannot be considered as a living property. Increase in mass and no. of individual = twins characteristics growth (PMT) Reproduction and growth are mutually exclusive events.(PMT)
